Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (Yingli Green Energy) is looking for a plant site to build a solar plant, Chron.com reported. The company has limited its search to five cities, including San Antonio, officials said. Yingli Green Energy will invest $20 million in the plant, which would bring 315 jobs to the city.
“We are working that deal, and we're excited about it,” Bexas county Judge Nelson Wolff said. “It's a company with new technology, and we think it would be a major breakthrough in a new green industry.”
Mayor Julián Castro said: “We are enthusiastic about the potential for solar manufacturing in San Antonio. It's a growth industry, and we look forward to working with the Economic Development Foundation and the county to put together an attractive package.”
“The jobs are important,” Wolff said. “But economics and jobs aside, I think it would raise our community's profile tremendously if we should get a solar manufacturer here.”
